If you’re searching for a relaxed, nature-filled all-inclusive in Mexico, here’s my honest review of Grand Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa after experiencing it firsthand on a FAM trip.

As a travel advisor, I believe in transparency. Not every resort is for every traveler — and that’s okay. My job is to match the right destination with the right person.

Here’s what you need to know.

Location & Atmosphere: Mountainous Jungle Meets the Beach

This Riviera Nayarit resort is built into the side of a mountain, surrounded by lush greenery and ocean views. The landscaping naturally keeps the property shaded and cooler throughout the day.

The views are stunning.

Sunrises and sunsets paint the sky in pinks, oranges, and purples. The mountains in the distance create a dramatic backdrop that feels different from the typical flat Cancun-style beach resort.

If you love tropical scenery with depth and character, this setting delivers.

The best way to describe the atmosphere?

The Overall Vibe: Slow Down and Breathe

Relaxed.

Time genuinely felt slower here. I wasn’t rushing from restaurant to pool to activity. It felt calm, unhurried, and peaceful.

It’s not a high-energy party resort.
It’s not ultra-luxury.
It’s not packed with over-the-top amenities.

But it offers something many travelers are craving: peace.

Rooms: Adults Side vs. Family Side

The resort has separate areas, and the room experience differs.

The updated rooms on the adults/non-family side are noticeably more modern. Clean lines, updated furniture, and a more refreshed aesthetic.

The family-side rooms felt more dated in comparison, but they do have some extras. The family suite also comes with another pool choice and restaurant. In addition, the check-in for the family side is air conditioned and has a gaming spot for kids to play while parents get situated.

If I were booking this property for clients, I would strongly recommend the updated room category.

Food & Dining Experience

For an all-inclusive:

  • The buffet was solid and consistent.
  • The catered international dinner our final evening was phenomenal.
  • The Mexican restaurant was delish. We had fresh guac and the tacos were flavorful, but the sunset view really stole the show.
  • The Italian restaurant lacked flavor and didn’t stand out.

Overall, dining is good — but not a major selling point compared to atmosphere and location.

Pools & Beach Experience

The pools are smaller than many larger all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. However, the property itself is smaller and more intimate.

The beach is tide-dependent.

This is important: It’s not ideal for snorkeling or calm swimming. The water conditions vary with the tide.

However, it’s excellent for paddleboarding and surfing.

If you’re expecting crystal-clear, Caribbean-style water, this is not that destination.

Things to Be Aware Of

In the spirit of honesty:

  • I experienced minor key entry issues. Maintenance resolved them quickly.
  • My tub stopper didn’t function, which was disappointing.
  • Some staff members were not fully informed about on-property dining accommodations.
  • Due to the mountainside layout, the property can be challenging for guests with mobility concerns.

While the resort is technically accessible, maneuvering can be difficult due to elevation changes.

Standout Service at the Activities Center

Juan, the activity director, was exceptional — friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The general staff atmosphere was welcoming and warm. We learned quite a bit about tequila and mezcal at our tasting. How it’s made and what to pair it with along with some history.

Who This Resort Is Perfect For

✔️ Couples looking for a relaxed getaway
✔️ Girls trips focused on unwinding
✔️ Travelers who value atmosphere over flashy luxury
✔️ Guests who want to explore outside the resort
✔️ People who prioritize scenic views and nature

There are many nearby excursions and experiences — we simply ran out of time. I fully plan to explore more on a return visit.

Who Should Consider Other Options

❌ Guests who need easy mobility
❌ Travelers wanting massive pools and party energy
❌ Those expecting calm snorkeling beaches
❌ Guests seeking ultra-luxury amenities

Final Thoughts

Grand Palladium Vallarta is not about excess. It’s about slowing down. It’s about jungle air, mountain silhouettes, and colorful sunsets. It’s about disconnecting from chaos and reconnecting with yourself. And at this stage of life, that kind of peace holds serious value.
